Our Week in the Big City

Daniel was thrilled that Jeb got to come with us everyday!

We have had a fantastic time at VBS this week! The theme was 'Life in the Big City' based in NYC. There were lots of Liberty crowns & taxis floating around. I worked in Missions and got to see every class, Kingergarten-4th grade as they rotated through each day. The four themes in Missions were One Verse (bible translation), Orphans, Feeding the Hungry & Water (focusing on providing clean water). It was a great place to be & to watch as the kids found ways they can step up and help those in need in the name of Jesus. Daniel had a great time with his class and his favorite part of the week was the worship rally each day (Lance's animations, Farnsworth in the skit & the promise of gross stuff on Mr. Jonathan's head highlighted). Laura Ann loved her class too. Her favorite things were art and music, not sure she could narrow it down to just one! I did get to see Daniel as he rotated through Missions for about 25 minutes everyday, but never got to see Laura Ann in action. :( All of my pictures are borrowed from the many 'picture takers' who floated around all week!

The children's ministry at FBCT adopted the Toboro people in Papa, New Guinea a couple of years ago through the organization, One Verse. One Verse translates scripture for people groups who do not have Bibles in their own language. Anyway, it costs about $26 to translate one verse and so far, over the past couple of years, they have collected enough $ to translate Ephesians, Phillipians and Colossians. The goal this week was to collect enough $ in the offering to translate the book of James, which would be about $2800. For every $50 collected, one gross item would be dumped on Mr. Jonathan's head at the family celebration on Sunday. Daniel followed this closely all week & can hardly wait for Sunday! And with $2200 collected this week, that's A LOT of gross things!!
