Family Night at the WEE Center

We all accompanied Laura Ann to the WEE Center tonight for family night. Mrs. Laura had read the book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie to the class at school today. Tonight, we rotated through centers to go along with the book. It was lots of fun. Laura Ann enjoyed sharing some of her daily activities with us and introducing us to her new friends. She absolutely LOVES Ms. Laura and is such a big girl! Daniel LOVED seeing Ms. Cynthia and Ms. Laura, and of course, he stopped by the Rocket class to say hello to Ms. Misty. I recorded every minute of our night with my camera, only to accidently delete them all later.:( So, I am left with a photo of the book we brought home, All About Laura Ann......

A Day of Parties

World Vision Party at the Bozemans
We went to a World Vision party at the Bozemans today and learned about children around the world who are hungry and are lacking clean water to drink. Our family chose two children to sponsor through World Vision. We chose Banabas in Uganda, who has the same birthday as Daniel and Rosmery in El Salvador, who has the same birthday as Laura Ann. Dan and I sponsored a little boy, Archie from the Phillipines, for a few years who aged out of the program. It was really neat corresponding with him and getting his pictures- he was always so grateful. We are so excited about the opportunity and blessing of sponsoring two more children and watching them grow up, along with Daniel and Laura Ann. This is a great learning opportunity for Daniel and Laura Ann as well. We live such indulged lives in this country and it is so easy to loose sight of the millions of people around the world who are hungry, thirsty, and even dying everyday. Banabas and Rosmery are posted on our refrigerator now & serve as daily reminders for us to be thankful for all that we have. Their sweet pictures also remind us to pray for them everyday. For more information, go to www.worldvision.org or pick up a copy of The Hole in Our Gospel by Richard Stearns, ceo of World Vision. If you choose to read the book, be prepared for your life to change......I'm just sayin......prepare yourself!

Sarah's Party
Laura Ann enjoyed her friend, Sarah's Dora Party today too. This was the CUTEST birthday party I've ever been too! Swiper 'stole' the cupcakes and each child was given a backpack complete with a map, binoculars, and magnifying glass to help them on their 'adventure' to find the cupcakes. Then, they rotated through stations before finally finding the cupcakes to 'save' the birthday party. So, so cute & fun!

Brianna's Party
Daniel enjoyed his classmate, Brianna's party at A Play Place today as well. Because of his broken collar bone, his activities were very limited. He lived it up playing air hockey with Sara Kate and eating birthday cake.

Bless Him!!

In my bed this morning watching movies

Yesterday, Daniel decided that since the cut on his eye is all healed, it was time to have another accident. About 7:00 last night, he had a bike wreck and broke his collar bone. Thankfully, I was outside with him when it happened & was able to get to him quickly. He was in a lot of pain as soon as it happened, but we were still unsure if he was hurt really bad or just being dramatic. We tried, unsuccessfully for the most part, to get him calmed down. He wouldn't move his left shoulder or arm at all, so we started to suspect that he was really hurt. Of course, we called our sweet friend, Dr. Jeremy, to get some advice. After talking to him, we felt fairly sure that he had at least a fracture, so off to the ER we went. It was almost 8:00 by that time & I decided to try the after hours care office with our pediatrician to avoid the ER. We were very blessed that they were still there and willing to treat Daniel. After an xray, we found out that his collar bone wasn't fractured, but completely broken! Bless him! No wonder he was in so much pain! Anyway, he is in a sling now. Dr. Webster said no P.E., no recess, no playground, no bikes, no ball, no rough play, etc. for 6 weeks! We go back in 2 weeks to be sure that the bone is healing properly and if it is, she may ammend that to 4 weeks. He missed school today & will miss tomorrow and Friday too due to pain & limited mobility. He can't lay down, so he couldn't get comfortable enough last night to sleep. We were up all night. About 4:00 am, I took him out of his bed & put him on his bean bag. This seemed to do the trick & he got a few hours of sleep there. He's been ok today, but very guarded & cautious with his arm. I'm hoping he will be better tomorrow. So much for waiting six years for another accident! :)

I have to add that Laura Ann is going to be such a good mommy one day. As soon as Daniel had his wreck last night, she was all over him asking if he was ok and giving him hugs and kisses. When we said that we had to let a doctor look at his arm, he lost it & was so afraid to go. Laura Ann reminded him multiple times that he did not have to be afraid because Jesus would be with him. She was so concerned about him. Dan stayed here & put her to bed last night while I took Daniel to the doctor. He said that when they prayed, she asked God to take care of Daniel- so sweet! She got up this morning before him & immediately asked if he was better and wanted to see him. When he got up, she tried (unsuccessfully) to hug him- nobody gets close to that arm! Then, when I picked her up at school today, before the teacher had closed the door, she was asking if he was doing better. She tried again (unsuccessfully) to hug him when we got home. We can't make her understand that this is painful for him. She finally settled for a kiss. For an almost four year old, she has shown a lot of compassion. So sweet to see this side of her!

Deer!

We have been seeing deer off and on since we moved to Valley Way. Dan walks early every morning and sees them almost everyday in our neighbor's backyard. Our backyard is fenced, so we haven't seen any back there.....yet. On Monday, I was at the kitchen sink doing dishes after dinner and when I looked out the window, a deer was in our flower garden (actually it is a weed garden at the moment, but we are working on cleaning it up!). Dan says that they could easily scale our fence, so we may have them in our backyard soon enough! We were planning to plant a vegetable garden next spring in place of the flower garden, but looks like that may not work out! :)

Grandparent's Day

Thanks to Big Daddy for taking pics at Grandparent's Day at Paine

Laura Ann welcoming the grandparents to her party......she REALLY dressed up- sparkle eye shadow and all!

"Grandparents, like heroes, are as necessary to a child's growth as vitamins" -Joyce Allston

Monday was Grandparent's Day at Paine, so Big Daddy, Nanna & Gran came to join Daniel for some fun. First they attended the book fair and loaded up with some new books (that's some great marketing on the schools part- I guess the parents don't spend enough money, so they decided to have the bookfair the week of grandparents day!). After the book fair, they headed back to the classroom to read the new books. Daniel's friends, Hunter & June weren't able to have their grandparents there that day, so they joined Daniel and his grandparents for reading time. Big Daddy even took Hunter & June to the book fair and bought them a book too. Thank you, Big Daddy! Thanks to all three of you for making such a big effort to come from out of town to be with Daniel. He was beyond thrilled to have you visit him at school!

Laura Ann was very disappointed that she couldn't go to Grandparent's Day at Paine, so we decided to have a Grandparent's Day 'party' at our house for them after they got back. She worked really hard on a banner for the mantel and she made them all tissue paper flowers. We got to enjoy a quick lunch before they all headed back home.

Daniel and Laura Ann are blessed beyond measure with the best grandparents and great grandparents ever! We love you all and are so very thankful for your presence in our lives!

Laura Ann's Naptime

Laura Ann took her bi-monthly nap last Tuesday. She was watching cartoons & eating a snack on the sofa one minute and the next minute, she was out. The funny thing is that Daniel & Jeb were running through the house playing and a painter and electrician were here doing some work. Needless, to say, it was very loud and there was lots of commotion. She slept right through it all! I guess when you only take one nap every 8 weeks or so, you can sleep through anything!

The Golfer

Daniel came through the kitchen on his way outside in this outfit one day last week. I told him that was a clean shirt, to go back to his room and change back into the clothes he had worn to school. He quickly informed me that he was a golfer and that golfers don't wear tshirts, but golf shirts, so he HAD to wear this shirt. I couldn't argue with that. He chose the pants from his Speed Racer costume for his golf pants???

Danul

Daniel informed me tonight that his name is NOT spelled Daniel. He then proceeded to 'sound' it out..... d-a-n-u-l.....to prove his point. I explained that sometimes words aren't spelled the way that they sound, but he wasn't convinced & kept on writing it, Danul. Looks like we may have to change his birth certificate! I mean, how do you argue with a 6 year old about phonics?? :)

**This also makes me laugh because Laura Ann called him Dan-ul forever.

Labor Day

Me, Daniel & Laura Ann with Grandmama

Gran & Laura Ann

Grandmama with all of her grandchildren & great grandchildren that were there today

We headed to Moulton today to celebrate Grandmama's 85th birthday with the Compton clan. We stopped at Gran & Papa's first. Daniel and Laura Ann were thrilled to find that Papa had made them a tire swing. We have been telling them stories about the one Sam and I had as kids, so they asked Papa the last time we were there to make them one. Papa did not disappoint and oh, what fun!! After some swinging time, we went to Grandmama's and had a great time visiting with all of the Comptons. There are more aunts, uncles and cousins than I can count so needless to say, there is never a dull moment. Daniel had a blast playing.....you guessed it.....football! I have lots of football player cousins......Mitch & Whitaker mainly, who got them divided into teams and the game was ONNNNN! Daniel's most favorite part was tackling and he did lots of it! When he wasn't playing football, he was busy climbing a tree, so his day was made! Laura Ann kept herself busy sampling lots of desserts and playing with toys from Grandmama's toy basket. We had lots of fun & enjoyed visiting with family that we don't get to see often enough. Happy 85th Birthday Grandmama!!!

P.S. And yes I am aware that Laura Ann wore her cheerleader outfit for three days in a row. It is being washed tonight. I just didn't fight the battle & let her wear it even though it was dirty. I hope the grandparents are proud! :)

Some Sunday Fun....

We continued our Labor Day weekend fun on Sunday. The day started with church, then Dan & Daniel hit the backyard for more yard work when we got home. Laura Ann and I watched them from the porch while making sure the brownies still tasted good! :) We decided later in the afternoon that the weather was finally nice enough (after an extremely hot summer) to go to the playground & had lots of fun playing there. When we got home from the playground, Daniel wanted to play football......again, so we geared up for another game. They used the garage as the 'tunnel' & would run out while Dan & I cheered for them. That must have been extremely exciting because they did this over and over and over. There wasn't very much football playing or cheerleading, just 'running out of the tunnel'. My battery was almost dead, so these pics aren't too good, but they did capture the excitement on their faces. I'm loving my little Bama fans!!!

Ready for some TIDE Football!!!

We kicked off our Labor Day weekend with Nanna & Big Daddy getting ready for the Bama game on Saturday. Daniel was in football player mode all day pretending to be Mark Ingram. He ate lunch on the porch with his friend, Julio Jones & insisted that we call him Mark all day. Laura Ann got into the spirit too in her new cheerleader outfit. We were very excited to cheer on our team by the evening when they kicked off & enjoyed watching Bama win their first game of the season. Roll Tide!!!!

The Table Washer

I went to Paine & ate lunch with Daniel today. The first thing he said when he saw me was "Mom, guess what??? I GET to be the table washer today!!". I assured him that was wonderful news & off to the lunch line we went. It was quite the experience & Daniel was quite the expert. He explained every detail of the process to me, helped other kids around him who were having problems & was sure to remind me at checkout to get my utensils, ketchup and napkins because I wouldn't be allowed to come back! I was wondering if I was in the right place, eating lunch with the right child! :) Then he punched in his number & waited for the cashier to tell him he was approved. When she asked about me, he graciously told her he was paying for my lunch too! Thanks, Daniel- I'm only the person who puts the money in your lunch account! He could hardly eat for pointing out all of his friends over the entire cafeteria to me. While we were eating, several kids in his class & other classes, introduced themselves and proclaimed to be 'Daniel's friend'. So much for all that worrying about him not knowing anyone in his class! I had forgotten how quick 30 minute lunches pass, but was surprised that Daniel managed to eat most of his food, including the turnip greens. Then it was time for the big event......table washing. Daniel got to empty his tray first and while everyone else emptied their trays & lined up, he had the HUGE honor of washing the table. He did a great job- again I'm thinking......is this really my child? Wow, it's amazing what he is capable of when I'm not hovering over him! He has most definitely undergone the 'Kindergarten Transformation' in the past few weeks!

Arrggg......

.......William is three and we all enjoyed his Pirate party on Saturday night. Of course, Daniel was all into it and was in 'pirate' mode the entire party. Thanks to Brian & Melissa for providing such a fun time- even the rain didn't dampen this party! And the best part was all of the 'treasures' we left with. Lots of 'pirate' play gong on in the James' house these last few days! :) Happy birthday William!!!

Tailgating with the Huskies

Anne Stewart, Daniel & Emily

Sara Kate & Daniel (We ran into Sara Kate at the inflatables & Daniel was so excited to see her! She is in his class this year & he talks about her often. Sara Kate's mom, Emily has emailed me a few times over the last two weeks to say that Sara Kate loves Daniel & thinks that he is the funniest little boy ever and that she loves his hair!:)

Laura Ann with her slushie

There is lots to love about our town & one of them is that the Huskies host a tailgate party on the quad behind the stadium before every home game. We have avoided these in the past (mostly because it is hot & the game starts too late), but after hearing it announced everyday at school last week, Daniel wouldn't take no for an answer. Looks like we've got a Huskie fan on our hands or a Huskie 'pup', as the primary students are called. So, we met up with lots of friends and got our faces painted, enjoyed popsicles & lots of jumping in the inflatables. The Rogers live across the street from the stadium and graciously invited all of us move our tailgate to their house for dinner. And let me just say that the Rogers can 'grill it up' with the best of them. For the second time this summer, they served their famous chicken kabobs & crockpot greenbeans- Y.U.M.!!! And then topped that off with strawberry limeade slushes- perfect for a hot summer cookout! Some of us ended our fun night at the Rogers' house & some of us headed on the game. We are definitely in the Huskie spirit now (even if we can't stay out late enough for the game)!! Go Huskies!!!
