Anakin

In full 'Anakin' character (because this is the way he stands!)

I love this pic because this is my view from the front porch every morning.....my baby heading to school with that hand thrown up.....so sweet!

Paine Primary hosted Storybook Character Dress Up Day today & Daniel went as Anakin from Star Wars. I had all of these GREAT ideas about characters he could be from actual storybooks, but he had his mind set on Anakin. I gave up fighting with him about whether or not his Star Wars books are storybooks (they ARE NOT!...would Librarian Melissa agree with me on this?). He wanted to be Spiderman at first, totally disregarding the storybook part of his assignment & just had 'dress-up' on his mind. I explained the storybook part & that is when he settled on Anakin because he has a bunch of Star Wars books, so Anakin it was. He was beyond excited about getting to wear a costume to school. I was a little worried because he left 'in character'......I had to say good-bye to Anakin instead of Daniel. He also took a light saber with him, so I wrote a note to his teacher saying that she should take it from him if it caused any problems. I'm happy to report that Anakin stayed on starry eyes! Maybe he should get to wear a costume everyday!!

Trauma

This was one of those times we had to touch Ruthie to be sure that she was breathing. I seriously hope she was comfortable! Ha!

Ok, for the trauma.....

They never ever get table food, except for when I boil chicken & I have always given them some scraps. Because of that, anytime chicken is cooking, they are in the kitchen at my feet waiting for their bite. Ruthie is totally & completely blind. She really can't see a thing. She has her little path in the house & the yard, but if she gets off of her path, she gets really confused & runs into everything in her path. I was so proud of her on this night because she made it into the kitchen from her bed without running into anything.....I'm sure it was the aroma of chicken that guided her! Anyway, I bent down to put her bite right in front of her face so she could find it & she snapped & BIT MY FINGER!!! She clamped down & would NOT let go because she thought she had the chicken! After what seemed like forever, probably just 10 or 12 seconds though, I managed to unclamp her mouth. Pain would be an understatement for how this felt. IT HURT!!!!! My finger was bleeding very bad, so I just held it under the faucet trying to decide if I would need stitches or not. Poor Ruthie just stood there with her pitiful blank stare still waiting for the bite of chicken that Molly ended up eating when she knocked it out of my hand! Bless her! I don't think she had any idea that she had bitten ME! Anyway, the bleeding finally slowed down enough for a bandaid & it wasn't bad enough for stitches. It was just a small place on the pad of my finger, but what caused the most pain was where her bottom tooth went through my nail on the top side of my finger. Ouch! And yes, I am a total baby & cried like one too! Dan, unfortunately, was at baseball practice and missed this whole episode! So what's the 'take away' (for all of you Akridge people:)?? NEVER EVER try to feed a blind dog by hand!!!! Long story short, my finger ended up getting infected the next day & I had to get an antibiotic. I know it's a huge surprise, but I toughened up & survived the pain! And I can't finish this post without saying a big thanks Dr. Jeremy for enduring all of my calls & texts about what exactly defines an infected finger! I'm not too worried though, because Daniel declared to Dan while greeting with him at church this week, that he is planning to marry Anne Stewart. He then proceded to ask Dan if he thought she would have her hair curled like she did last week!! Seriously?? Anyway, Dan told Jeremy that since we were going to be inlaws down the road, we should get free medical care. I think that's only fair....... :)

My Crafty Girl

Laura Ann LOVES anything 'crafty'.....

I surprised her today with window markers (thanks to Carrie Anne for the plug.....Wal-Mart $3.49) & they were a HUGE hit!
Even resident artist, Daddy, got in on the fun!

She also made these earrings today out of playdough

*Should note that when we are home, these are typical outfits for her......random matches from her pj drawer & dress up closet. Lucky for our laundry lady (ha!!!), she changes constantly throughout the day & keeps her laundry basket full!

The Dentist & The Tooth Fairy

Dr. Massey looking at Laura Ann's teeth......she was so confused why he was there without "Meredif & Elizabef". So funny!

Ms. Krista cleaning Daniel's teeth

Laura Ann wanted to stay put in her chair after her cleaning was finished.....to watch the Tinkerbell movie!

Dr. Massey looking at Daniel's teeth

Going to the dentist is a breeze for us. We are friends with our dentist & hygenist so Daniel & Laura Ann see lots of familiar faces when we walk in the door. It helps that there are movies playing in the waiting room and during the exam too. Unfortunately, Daniel & Laura Ann seem to have my teeth & both had cavities this visit(even though Dan is a Nazi about teeth brushing & flossing:).

I should also mention that Laura Ann got to see the Tooth Fairy today at school (aka Carrie Anne, Dr. Massey's wife......who knew the Tooth Fairy was actually married to a dentist???:) She got in the car soooo excited to tell me all about it. The Tooth Fairy said, "Fruit & Milk are good for your teeth, candy is not. You should go to the dentist 2 times & brush your teeth 2 times. She had on a booootiful dress!" Laura Ann was also very excited to tell Daniel when he got home that the Tooth Fairy said he was keeping her VERY busy! Ha! She talked & talked & talked about what 'the Tooth Fairy said'. The Tooth Fairy made quite the impact! Maybe I should get the Tooth Fairy to call & talk to her about cleaning her room??

Cookout with the Coueys

Mr. Couey is an avid fisherman......he literally fishes almost everyday of the entire year. He has been trying to get us over for awhile to enjoy some of his fish & we finally got to go tonight. Lucky us!!! He fried fish (that he caught yesterday at Logan Martin), hush puppies (some without onions for Dan), and fries. Yum, yum, yum! We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Daniel and Laura Ann had a great time playing with Lil Sis, Mrs. Couey's dog, but she was too fast for a picture. As always, it was great to see our all time favorite neighbors! We even got to bring home the leftovers!
