The Iron Bowl

Dan & Jeremy

The only way we survived the cold wind....the tarps.....

Even though it was freezing cold, we had a great time tailgating in Tuscaloosa before the game. Daniel & Laura Ann stayed behind at Gran & Papa's, so our tailgate was especially quiet & peaceful! :) For game time, Big Daddy came prepared......he brought tarps to put up behind us to block some of the wind. Our seats have a constant breeze (even when there aren't 20 mile an hour wind gusts as were forcasted for that day), which is nice during the September & October games, but is unbearable when it gets cold for the November games. Anyway, the guys got those up & we were ready for the game to start. The first half was great & very exciting. Too bad the game couldn't end at half time because the 2nd half didn't go as we had hoped. It was a super fun game anyway and we love cheering on our team win or lose.......ROLL TIDE!!!

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good." Psalms 136:1

We enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving in Moulton. Our day started with lunch at Gran and Papa's. Daniel and Laura Ann were thrilled to see Kate and they all had lots of fun playing outside. Gran served up a delicious Thanksgiving feast that we all stuffed ourselves with! We rested for just a little while & then headed to Grandmama Compton's to visit with the Compton clan. From there we went to Papaw & Mamaw's house for dinner with the McWhorter clan where we stuffed ourselves for the second time in one day.....wow! It was a great day with family and one that reminded us of how truly blessed we are and of the MANY reasons we have to be thankful.

Pumpkin Everything!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we always make a 'no bake' pumpkin pie, which Daniel loves. We did that again this year & added a new thing, pumpkin smoothies. Daniel loved them both & had multiple servings of each. Laura Ann did drink a little bit of her smoothie, but after one bite of the pie announced that she did not like it. Oh well, I tried! :) She does, however, LOVE to make/bake anything in the kitchen and was a great helper in making the pies & the smoothies.

Game Time

Daniel & Laura Ann love to play games. Yesterday morning they were playing this Disney princess game when it was time for Daniel to leave for school. A few minutes later, I passed by & noticed that Laura Ann had recruited some other friends to play with her since Daniel had to leave. She patiently went through the process of the game with each player. After a while she announced that Minnie won! Yay Minnie!

He Has Ears!!

I took Daniel to get his hair cut & did ask for a shorter cut, but didn't mean this short! Wow! When she cut it over his ears, it made me feel sick! I know, it's just hair.....not sure why I still have this reaction when he's six, but I do. He always wears it shorter in the winter b/c it isn't as curly, but I just wasn't prepared for it to be this short. I realized when she was finished cutting that I hadn't seen his ears in awhile! Ha! Anyway, now that it is done, I think he looks super cute & super grown up! It is lots easier to fix in the mornings, but even Daniel said this morning that he misses his curls!

Fun times at Bryant Denny

Running for a touchdown

Laura Ann's not much on cheering, but she LOVES the 'lifts'

Daniel being super cool with the track team

Loving on Big AL

Gran and Papa joined us this year for the stadium tour with Big AL's Kids Club. We all had a blast, but it was seriously little boy heaven! The locker room was really neat this year because all of the name plates were still there. Daniel loved seeing Ingram & Julio's lockers. Running out of the tunnel was the best thing ever for Daniel again & he did it several times. He played football the entire time we were on the field with Tyler, Papa & his dad. He loves to tackle & slide on the ground. I tried to get some up close pictures of his legs. There are no words to describe how totally filthy they were! His knees were solid bruises by the time we got home and it took a few days to get them completely clean because we couldn't scrub too hard! Laura Ann spent a fair share of her time playing football too.....maybe I should've put her in a jersey! She probably said, "do it again, Daddy" a thousand times wanting Dan to 'lift' her 'like a cheerleader'. Daniel got to meet the track team, who had quite the personalities!!! They were really sweet to him & showed him how to 'be cool' for the picture! Just before we left the stadium, we got to see our favorite mascot, Big AL. He got lots of high fives from Daniel & lots of hugs from Laura Ann. Laura Ann seriously loves Big AL. While I waited in line for our picture, she got as close as she could without being in the way & just sat & stared at him. Every few minutes, she would wave and smile at him......so sweet! No stadium tour is complete without a visit to the Walk of Fame, which we enjoyed along with some yummy yogurt. And the highlight of my day was going to my FAVORITE restaurant, probably anywhere, but definitely in Tuscaloosa.....DePalma's. There are no words to describe how delicious it was......totally worth the trip! Fun times at Bryant Denny!!! Roll Tide!

Can You Say FEAST???

Abby, Sawyer & Daniel

The Blue Hall......what a feast!

To be politically correct (ugh!!), they had a moment of silence to 'reflect on what they are thankful for'......most of the kids immediately bowed their heads, closed their eyes & folded their hands.....obviously in prayer. Even Kindergarteners know that this is a time of PRAYER, not 'reflection'!!!

Indian Daniel cleaned his plate & had seconds of pumpkin pie!

The seven classes on the blue hall had a combined Thanksgiving feast. Each student got to choose whether to be a Pilgrim or an Indian for the feast. Each class provided one food item for the feast and shared with all of the other classes just as the Pilgrims and Indians shared food for the first Thanksgiving. Mrs. Walker told the story of the first Thanksgiving before they ate and explained how each food item on their plate related. There was also lots of discussion on all of the many things we have to be thankful for....... What a week in kindergarten- I had forgotten how much fun it is!!

Operation Christmas Child

We had fun again this year packing our boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We prayed over our boxes & for the children who will receive them. Daniel and Laura Ann are so excited to be helping other children & have asked lots of questions this year about the process. We can't wait to see pictures of some of the children opening their boxes.....we still have the ones from last year that they look at often. Our boxes will be going to India & we look forward to tracking their progress! Many thanks to Melissa & William for delivering them for us!

Ready for Thanksgiving dinner & Communion at church Wednesday night!

Thanksgiving Centers

Ms. Elledge's & Mrs. Benson's classes did Thanksgiving centers together. The students wrote their names and the alphabet using the 'pilgrim alphabet' & made shakers decorated with Indian symbols in Ms. Elledge's room. In Mrs. Benson's room they made clay pots and beaded necklaces. What a fun way to get ready for Thanksgiving!
