Daniel's 3rd Track Meet
Daniel's last track meet was this morning, but due to the rain & storms it was cancelled not long after we got started. Daniel did get to run the 50m & came in 4th place. Yay Daniel!!! It's been a great track season!
More Superman
Daniel's drawing of Superman
Daniel's drawing of a 'bad guy'
Superman with the 'curl'
The substitute Superman costume
Daniel has continued to be entrenched in Superman all week. He has done several drawings & made up stories to go along with them of Superman's adventures. One day, he decided he needed to have a curl on his forehead just like Superman. About the middle of the week, I made him give up his costume long enough for me to wash it (after playing outside in it every afternoon, it was filthy!). While his costume was in the wash, he came up with his own version of a Superman costume.........pretty good, huh? I was so impressed that his version actually included clothing! The undies are still visible, though, but that's ok because that IS how Superman wears his! Ha!
Earth Day
Singing at chapel w/ Mr. BJ
Daniel as a 'raindrop'
The raindrops 'raining' on a plant
Lester Litter
The rocket class performed an Earth Day skit in chapel for the other kindergarten classes on Wednesday. Daniel was a raindrop in the skit & had to 'rain' on a plant to help it grow. They also had a special visit from Lester Litter to encourage them to keep God's earth clean.

Flying........
Daniel and Laura Ann had a great time at Nanna and Big Daddy's over the weekend. They came home with a Superman DVD of the original episodes, so Daniel, of course broke out his costume. He used my shower stall to change back and forth from Clark Kent to Superman. The new thing this time is the flying. He 'flew' all over the backyard. I'm good with that as long as his feet stay on the ground while he's in flight and am hoping he doesn't get any bright ideas to try to 'fly' by jumping off something! Ha! Laura Ann came home with a new princess dress and twirled all of the backyard while Daniel was flying. Love their imaginations!
While they were having all that fun in Douglasville, Dan and I began the HUGE task of packing up our house. On the countdown to our move in two weeks!!

Bouquet
Laura Ann is absolutely OBSESSED with picking "flowers" EVERYWHERE we go!!! In her defense on the flowers vs. weeds issue......I am constantly pointing out to her the flowers she can pick (the weeds) and the ones the can't (the actual flowers because they usually are someone else's). So, I guess I am to blame for her belief that every blooming weed is a beautiful flower. She brings me multiple bouquets daily from our yard & any other patch of grass we may visit! Today she wanted to bring her 'bootiful' flowers in, so naturally I put them in water for her. She blows the petals off the dandelions as she picks them, but still keeps them in her bouquet, thus the empty stems. LOVE her sweet innocence!
Painting with the Rocket Class
I went to school yesterday to help the Rocket Class paint tshirts to wear next week in their Earth Day skit. They are such a neat group! I made it out of there without a drop of green paint on me! :)
No Training Wheels!!
Daniel learned to ride without training wheels this time last year on his smaller bike, then he got this bigger bike for his birthday in June. He was afraid to take the training wheels off on this bike until Tuesday. He asked Dan to take them off. While Dan was working on the bike, I gave Daniel my speech about how it may take a few days to get used to it & get the hang of but not to give up, etc. Well, so much for that, he got on & took off! Dan says once you learn to ride a bike you never forget, so I guess that's true. Daniel just needed the courage to try it! Way to go, Daniel!!
Photogenic
I attempted to get a shot of them before church Sunday & this is what I got. I'm afraid Laura Ann has learned the 'cheeser' smile from Daniel, so looks like I'm stuck with it for a few more years.... sigh....
Happy Birthday Kate!!
Sweet Kate celebrated her 2nd birthday with a fun party on Saturday. Since we were at Daniel's track meet, Laura Ann hitched a ride to the party with Gran and Papa. She had a great time playing with Kate and has kept her birthday celebration going all week with her baby dolls. So glad you enjoyed your party, Kate! We love you!

Track Meet #2
Long Jump
Daniel w/ his awards
Rounding the curve in the 200m
Daniel w/ the premier members of his fan club
Daniel had his 2nd track meet today. After a clean sweep of 1st place wins in every event the first meet with his age group, we decided to let him move up to the next level & compete with the 6 & 7 year boys. It was a whole new level of competition & he handled it great! Knowing that he probably wouldn't place 1st in many, if any events, we've spent lots of time this week talking about sportsmanship & that it is ok if you don't come in first every time. The most important thing is to do your best......and so on. He won 1st place in the relay, 2nd place in the 200m, 5th place the 100m, 4th place in the 100m, 6th place in long jump, not sure about shotput, but am thinking 3rd place. Anyway, it was a great meet for him overall, especially competing in one of the faster heats with kids 1-2 years older than him. I have to say that all of the coaches are wonderful about promoting sportsmanship too & really encourage the team to work hard to beat their best time and celebrate that too. At practice on Monday, every team member will get PBT awards for any event in which they beat their 'personal best time'. I'm sure Daniel will get a few of those, because he pushed harder today than I've seen him do before- probably because he was trying so hard to catch up! Ha! I was also so encouraged to watch several of the kids finish their races, then stand at the finish line to cheer on the kids coming in behind them & congratulate them as they finished. After talking all week about sportsmanship, I pointed that out to Daniel. I'm sure that spoke louder to him than my lectures all week! Anyway, I LOVE this track program & am so thankful for Coach Kelly & all the other coaches & volunteers who make it all work!
Masterpieces!
The WEE Center hosted its annual Art Show this past Wednesday & Daniel & Laura Ann did not disappoint. Daniel had a frog that he crafted from clay & painted (he refused to have a picture made with it). Laura Ann did a monkey tail painting & a dandilion painting for the show. The art show has a limit of two pieces per student, but Laura Ann's ambitious teachers did several pieces per student & hung them in the room. So, she has a few more pieces than Daniel in the slideshow. While Daniel's frog is wonderful & will definitely be a favorite part of my art collection from now on, I think it is safe to say that his talent/interest will not be in the arts. He DOES NOT like to do 'crafts' as he calls them! Ha! Laura Ann is another story- she loves anything 'crafty' and really takes her time & works so hard!
