Purple Day

Sorry for blogging this pic twice, but it's the only one I have of him in his purple shirt

Today was Purple Day & Daniel wore a shirt in a light shade of purple. He was not happy about today being purple day because 'purple is for girls'. He added this morning that "Abby can't wait for pink day because pink is HER favorite color" and then he threw in a "YUCK"! This afternoon when he got home though, his perspective had changed a little. He said that Ms. Elledge read Purplicious and Lily's Purple Plastic Purse both of which are GIRL books, but that he liked them "ok". He must have liked them a little better that ok, because after bath time tonight, he wanted to take a break from Ramona & read Lily's Purple Plastic Purse (we don't have Purplicious). And then, he wanted to read Chrysanthemum because Lily and Chrysanthemum are 'friends' and Ms. Elledge read it last week. I'm loving all of Ms. Elledge's book choices (and the trickles of information from Daniel about his day)!

A '3 Fast Years' Flashback

This is Daniel's 3K Open House, just a few weeks after school started........not the greatest pic, but look at what a sweet baby Laura Ann is!

Laura Ann Goes to 3K

Daniel told Laura Ann all about what to expect in Mrs. Laura's 3K class this morning before he left for school- including that he hopes she doesn't have to go to the office to see Mrs. Cynthia like he did when he was in 3K! Ha!

Ready for school

There she goes!

Getting a good morning hug from Mrs. Laura

Today was bittersweet for me. It was sweet because Laura Ann was so excited about going to preschool, having the same teacher as Daniel, getting a 'WEE Center kindergarten' bag, picking up in car line, so I was excited for her. It was bitter because she REALLY is my BABY and I can't believe she's in 3K already. It was so surreal walking her in this morning because I kept having flashbacks of walking Daniel into that same room three FAST years ago while pushing my sweet 10 month old baby girl in her stroller (see next post)! Today, I watched that same baby girl go to 3K. She pretended to be shy for maybe 10 seconds and then headed straight to Mrs. Laura for a hug. No tears for her, but as always a few for me! I'm still looking for that 'time freezing' button. So here's to you, baby girl, and wishing you a wonderful year of preschool!

There's a First Time for Everything......

She enjoyed nonstop movies yesterday and.....

popsicles for breakfast & lunch!

.......including the Stomach Bug! Yuck! Laura Ann had the stomach bug for the first time Sunday night. She was very brave & even made it to the potty every time after the first time she got sick. What a big girl! This was one 'first' that we didn't enjoy celebrating & are so glad that it was very short lived!

Buzz & Belle

Just a little Saturday morning fun........

A Late Night

Daniel and Jeb had just finished 'football camp at UA'. Jeb wanted me to snap a 2nd pic because he forgot to take his shirt off in the first one! Ha! Laura Ann felt left out for a second, but then decided she shouldn't take her dress off!

Since Saturday morning is the only morning we don't have to get up and be somewhere early, we decided to live it up last night and stayed outside until well after dark playing. Jeb joined in on the fun too!

Friday Fiesta!

The Wrecking Crew - I'm sure whoever cleaned off our table thought this!
Daniel & Abby

It seems that we end up eating dinner at Munoz almost every Friday night. Last night was one of those nights & we enjoyed the company of the Willinghams. Thank goodness for outdoor dining! We sat on the patio & put the kids on one end of the table. They had a grand old time, while the grown ups managed to have some good adult conversation. When we were leaving, we ran into Abby, who is in Daniel's class. When they saw each other, they ran & hugged! They were so excited to see each other. It was so sweet & I loved getting a little glimpse at one of his new friendships! Abby's family apparently has Friday Fiestas too, because that is the second time we've seen them there this month!

*Sorry for the small pics- I took them with my phone!

Meeting Mrs. Laura

View all

We were SO EXCITED to get the call Thursday night from Mrs. Laura saying that Laura Ann will be in her 3K Zebra class!! Mrs. Laura was Daniel's 3K teacher and she is truly one of the sweetest people I know. Laura Ann will definitely be in good hands this year! Dan & I took her to the WEE Center Friday morning for Meet the Teacher. She decided to be shy and insisted that Dan carry her in the building & the classroom. She was really shy & wouldn't say word to Mrs. Laura when we first got there. Just as with Daniel, her little group of friends are all spread out this year. None of her WEE Center friends are in her class, but one Sunday School friend, Campbell, is and she finally decided to get down and play with him. I guess she worked up some courage while she was playing with Campbell and decided to give Mrs. Laura a BIG hug. She also was thrilled with her Zebra class bag (the class bags are only for the kindergarten classes & she has always wanted one like Daniel's). Mrs. Laura has to finish painting her name on it and she will get to bring it home on Tuesday. While I went to the office to turn in all of her paperwork, Laura Ann had fun visiting with Ms. Angel, Ms. Becky & some of her Monkey class friends from last year. Then we did some shopping for new school shoes since all her 'closed toed' shoes are too small. She's all ready to go now! Look out 3K- here comes Laura Ann!!!

McWane Fun

While Daniel was at school on Thursday, me & my girl went to the McWane Center with Melissa, William, Michelle & Parker. It was a fun filled trip. We hit all of our favorite spots: the Itty Bitty Mouse House, the Water Table, the playroom, Itty Bity Magic City, Mr. Potato Head Exhibit, the Space Station, the Hurricane Tunnel (every time we passed it), Water World (Laura Ann's favorite thing of the day was petting the sharks- we were the only ones at the shark tank for awhile, so she got to do lots of petting!) and we squeezed in lunch between all of that! As much as I am missing Daniel since school started, I have really enjoyed having some one on one time with my baby girl and some of her sweet friends this week. And just for the record, outings with just one child are soooo much easier!! :)

The Laura Ann and Alleigh Show

Laura Ann and I met Alleigh and Lindsey for lunch at Chickfila on Wednesday. Laura Ann had a great time playing with one of her favorite friends. They decided to do silly faces for the camera & got a little carried away! :)

One Happy Kindergartner!

This little boy comes home from school everyday with the biggest smile on his face, which in turn, puts the biggest smile on his mama's face!

Here are some things about his first week:

*He LOOOOVES the bus, and that is probably an understatement, which is funny, because that is the thing that caused me the most worry these last few days.
*He has been on starry eyes EVERY day, so far- WOW!! And I found out tonight at Parent Chat night that they may move their clip down, but can move it back up to starry eyes if their behavior improves, but Daniel hasn't moved his clip AT ALL!! I've been assuming that Ms. Elledge is just being easy on them, but after tonight I found out that lots of kids have moved clips, even to yellow face, just not Daniel. I'm not sure who this kindergartner at my house is, but am LOVING this good behavior streak!
*He really cracked me up on Friday saying that 'things are about to get tough'. He went on the explain that they had been getting 3 warnings before moving their clips, but that starting Monday, they would only get one warning and "Mrs. Elledge said that it was going to be very tough!"
*Today he got off the bus & said that he was on starry eyes again & I said that I was so proud of him. Then he said, "Yea, I am really on the ball! I am getting the hang of 'starry eyes'. I didn't 'get it' at the WEE Center, but I do at Paine." Trying to keep a straight face, I told him that I am so glad he has figured it out! Ha! (Ms.Misty, I'm sure you are proud he finally figured it out, too- thanks for your endless patience with him last year!!:)
*He repeats lots of things his teacher says & I am so impressed that he is listening so well.
*He really loves Ms. Elledge and mentioned several times over the weekend that he missed her.
*I got an email from the parent of another little girl in his class Friday night relaying a story she had heard from her little girl, Sara Kate, about Daniel on the playground. Apparently he is the funniest little boy Sara Kate has ever met. I told Emily, the mom, to prepare herself because there is no telling what stories she may hear about Daniel this year!
*Granny, you'll be happy to know that there is a little girl named 'June' that sits at his table & he laughs telling us things she says. She seems to be quite in charge & may just be the reason for his good behavior! Ha!
*Ms. Elledge has lots of songs for routines, etc. and he has been trying to teach them to Laura Ann.
*She also uses puppets which Daniel loves.
*His story about helping a little girl on the bus the first day turned out to be true- found out from another parent who lives on her street and the little girl's name is Kendall. He still sits with her everyday (and our neighbor, Layton) and says that she doesn't cry anymore.
*He has carried his lunch everyday, but has decided to try out the lunchroom tomorrow. I said that we will have to learn his lunch # & he said not to worry because he already has a popsicle stick with his # on it to take to lunch.

It seems like my baby has done a TON of growing up this past week. I know Daniel isn't perfect & neither will this year be, but it sure has been nice to get off to such a great start. I, along with lots of other parents, gave Ms. Elledge big hugs & huge 'thank yous' tonight for taking such good care of our babies and sending them home with smiles everyday.

Splashin' with the Willingham Girls!

Laura Ann & I tagged along with Carrie Anne, Meredith & Elizabeth to the splash park today while big brothers, Barrett & Daniel were at school. I think Laura Ann & Meredith spent most of their time playing mermaids while sweet Elizabeth enjoyed nonstop snack time, that is when she wasn't sneaking over to the playground- ha! Mischief and all, Elizabeth really makes me miss my two year olds! It was a fun, fun morning that we were excited to squeeze in before Laura Ann starts to preschool next week!

Yard Sale for the Writebols

Our Kids of Compassion group hosted a yard sale this past Saturday for the Writebols (http://www.rafiki-foundation.org/ros/Writebol/writebol.html), a missionary couple, who run a school for orphans in Zambia. To go along with the yard sale, the kids hosted a lemonade stand for Aubrey Steen (http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/aubreysteen/createorsignin), a classmate of Allie & Anne Stewart's from the WEE Center, who is at Duke right now undergoing a bone marrow transplant instead of starting Kindergarten at Paine. Due to the torrential rain, the yard sale quickly became a garage sale and surprisingly, we still had a great turn out! The kids had loads of fun playing with each other, in the rain & with all of the yard sale toys. The dads did a great job working the lemonade stand when the kids gave it up to play! Ha! A big thanks to Becky for the idea and to the Bozemans for hosting all of us and our junk (I probably shouldn't call it junk since both me & my kids did some shopping there!!:).
