We had lots of fun at the circus this morning. The show was great & kept their attention for most of 2 hours. Laura Ann loved the elephants & Daniel could hardly wait to see the tigers. They both enjoyed (a TWELVE DOLLAR!!) bag of cotton candy- sticky, sticky, sticky!! And I had an especially good time testing out the new lense on my camera- oh what fun! :)

Role Reversal
For the first 2 years of Laura Ann's life, she cooperated fairly well with all of my camera torture & Daniel was very difficult at best. Now, Daniel will do anything I asked (with a fake smile, but hey, I can't be picky) & Laura Ann is difficult. If she is in the picture at all, she has to choose the location, whether to sit or stand, if they touch or not & I only have about 10 seconds before she is completely done. This morning I wanted to get a picture before church & she didn't want to stand still for 5 seconds & refused to cooperate. Of course, the tears were completely gone when the camera was put away & she was back to her happy self. Maybe when they are 10 & 12 I will finally get ONE picture of them both looking & both smiling a real smile, just maybe....
A visit with Caroline
Getting ready to leave for Douglasville
Silly time with Caroline
Matt & Caroline were at Nanna & Big Daddy's for a couple of days last week, so Dan took Daniel & Laura Ann for the day on Friday for a short visit. I sent him w/ the camera & told him to take of picture of the 3 kids. I have to say I am very impressed, especially since he hardly knows how to work the camera. He got some of the best pictures of the three of them any of us have ever gotten. Thanks Dan! I think the picture speaks for itself, they all 3 had lots of fun together!

Speed Racer
First of all, I know Daniel will hate me for this picture one day, but it is the picture that pretty much sums up the entire month of January '09 for him, so I had to post it. Dan's cousin, Marshall gave him a Speed Racer DVD for Christmas (thanks Marshall, it's been a HUGE hit!). The DVD is a collection of the old cartoons from the 60s. Daniel LOVES it & plays speed racer nonstop w/ all of his race cars. Of course, he has a costume. It consists of his sunglasses, bike helmet & brown saddle oxford shoes. I get the helment & shades, but the saddle oxfords??? He says they are racer shoes & wears them all day somedays. I'm pretty sure Speed Racer doesn't wear Mickey Mouse underwear, but Daniel hasn't thought about that yet, or the fact the he has on no clothes & Speed Racer wears them. Typical Daniel...all the of costume, minus the clothes! I thought he would start wearing his clothes more as he got older or as the weather got colder this winter, but no such luck. He strips down to his undies as soon as we walk in the door everyday & complains if I ask him to put on anything!
Our American Idol
Dan is an American Idol freak, so the rest of us have to endure it. :) Not so sure some of it is appropriate for preschoolers, but ours did watch some of it this past week. After a few contestants passed through, Laura Ann comes out of Daniel's room w/ his air compressor, singing into the attached tool (don't know what tool it is, but I'm sure Daniel could tell me). It does resemble a microphone, somewhat.....

Sandbox Fun
We took advantage of the beautiful weather on Thursday morning & played outside. They both love the sandbox, but Laura Ann gets out about every 30 seconds & wipes her hands off, then goes right back in again. Daniel played in there for almost an hour in his own little world. He took all of his little cars & trucks out to put in the sandbox. After naptime, he asked if he could bring them back in & I said yes. In a few minutes, he came to me said, "Mom, I made an accident on the rug." I think he brought in at least half of the sand in the sandbox with his cars & it was all over the rug. I told him I would clean the rug & he needed to clean the cars & next time the cars get cleaned before they come back in the house! Oh the joy of boys! :)
Problem Solved??
Laura Ann has been climbing in her bed for a while & finally learned how to climb out last week. She doesn't do it during nap or at night, only when she's playing. Anyway, I have been worried about her falling & knew that we had to do something fast. The obvious solution is to put her in a "big girl" bed & she already has one. The problem is that it would take up most of her play space in her room. I hate to do that b/c we don't have a playroom & the kids both spend lots of playtime in their bedrooms. We finally decided to just lower the front rail of the crib to the floor, so she can easily get in & out by herself. She & Daniel both thought this was just great & have spent lots of playtime in her bed the past couple of days. I was a little worried about her getting up at night & during nap time, but so far, she' staying in her bed until I come in to get her. Hopefully this will stop the climbing & put the "big girl" bed off for a few more months!

Happy New Year!
I cooked lunch New Year's day the first year we were married & 9 years later I am still doing it, so I guess that makes it a tradition. It's the same lunch every year (Dan's favorite): Pork chops, black eyed peas, turnip greens (from either Pop or Papa's garden), mashed potatoes & corn bread. Gran & Papa always celebrate the New Year at the beach & have stopped in on their way back home the past couple of years to join us for lunch. Of course the rest of the day included the recliner, the sofa & bowl games! Happy 2009!
New Year's Eve
Daddy's will do anything for their daughters- even sit at kid tables!
I vaguely remember that sometime before kids, we used to go to New Year's Eve parties & actually stay until midnight to ring in the new year- vaguely. For the past several years, we have just gone out to an early dinner w/ friends & gotten home by probably 9:00 at the latest. Well, this year we waited too late to make our dinner reservations, so we ended up going out with our friends on the 30th. We celebrated on New Year's Eve Eve & were so proud of ourselves for staying out until 9:30!!! We got together again on the 31st w/ the kids so they could be in on the fun too. All multi-kid photo sessions are wild, but I think this one topped the cake. I especially love the one of Daniel w/ his head in his hands. Poor Anderson didn't quite know what to think of our wild bunch! The session ended when Anderson fell face first down the stairs! Next time, Anderson, we'll do our photo session in a safer spot! :)
