1st Day of School
Today was Daniel's first day of 4K and Laura Ann's first day of Mother's Day Out. Daniel was so excited. He prepared Laura Ann yesterday by reviewing all of the rules: no hitting, pushing or biting. He also reminded her to share with her friends. It was really funny. Laura Ann absolutely LOVED her backpack. She had a melt down when I took it off of her to buckle her carseat. When we got to her room she wouldn't take it off & according to her teacher, she wore it for awhile in the classroom. Daniel has passed the baby hall, the toddler hall & is now a really big boy going to the kindergarten hall in the basement. According to him, big boy classes are in the basement. They both went in their classrooms w/o saying goodbye. I know that is a good thing, but a part of me is sad at how independent they've become. They are really growing up! I was the only one with tears this morning! They both had good days. Laura Ann's report said that they are already "in love" with her. That was really sweet, but I had to laugh to myself that Daniel has never gotten a teacher note like that! :) He did have starry eyes on his chart though, which I was very proud of- hope he can keep it up! He was excited to report that his teacher read The Kissing Hand, one of our favorite books, & he had made a kissing hand for me. So cute! Best of all, I got to buy groceries all by myself today!!

The Weekend
Daniel & Laura Ann watched 30 minutes of a movie last night sitting in the same chair- that's a record at our house! They were really sweet! Daniel got a new baseball & bat today & wanted to play baseball. This was very exciting b/c he is a lot more into super heroes, dirt, sticks, trucks, etc. than any sport. Dan drew bases on the driveway to get the game started. Daniel actually stayed interested for a long time & seemed to improve a little! We all had lots of fun playing, especially Laura Ann, who decided it was a great time to eat the sidewalk chalk while none of us were watching. :)

Saving the Universe
Daniel had fun yesterday wearing his Batman costume. Making a good day even better, our neighbor Nathan came over w/ light wands?? or swords as Daniel called them. They kept the boys busy for awhile fighting off evil. Another neighbor, Hardin joined the fun too!
Bitter Sweet

Sunday was a happy day and sad day for my family. Happy because we celebrated Kate's christening. She was absolutely precious and is such a blessing to our family! Sad because my granddaddy, G.W. Compton, passed away. At 85, he left behind his wife, 7 children, 16 grandchildren and 22 great grand children- what a legacy! He was a sweet man & will be greatly missed, but he is in a much better place now. I am including some pictures of Daniel with him on his 1st birthday & a couple of Christmas's ago when Granddaddy made a surprise appearance as Santa. Laura Ann suffers terribly from second child syndrome- I don't have any of her w/ him (maybe Gran does??). The sad part is that she sat in his lap for a few minutes last week when we were there, but I was busy taking pictures of Daniel climbing a tree! I didn't even realize that I didn't have one of her w/ Granddaddy. Sorry Laura Ann! You have lots of pictures with Grandmama!

Picnic & Splash Park
The weather was nice enough yesterday to have an outside picnic, so we headed to the park for lunch. After lunch we stopped at the splash park. Daniel & Laura Ann had a blast. I actually got to visit with some other mommies while they played & didn't have to worry about anyone drowning. This is a much easier trip than the pool and just as much fun!

Backyard Fun
Daniel & Laura Ann had lots of fun playing outside tonight in the baby pool & sprinkler.
Visiting Gran & Papa
We spent the first part of the week in Moulton visiting Gran & Papa. We also visited both sets of my grandparents, which kept us really busy. Daniel & Laura Ann love going to Moulton b/c they get to do so many new things. They were big helpers in Papa's garden picking the tomatoes. Daniel got to feed my Uncle Tim's donkey, Bonnie (sorry, I didn't get a picture of Bonnie). He almost gave Gran a heart attack climbing a tree at my grandmother's. I was more concerned that he might attempt to "fly" out of the tree in his Batman shirt than I was about him falling. He was great at going up, but had some trouble coming down, so maybe flying out isn't a bad idea. They both had endless fun playing outside & we all enjoyed Gran's yummy cooking!
Batman & Cinderella
Ok, I know I said just last week that I wouldn't buy any costumes, b/c Daniel is so great at creating them, but over the weekend, I found a hand me down Batman from our sweet neighbor, Cody that I had forgotten about. Boy was it a hit! I have put it on & taken it off Daniel about 100 times over the past few days. He loves it. Laura Ann was kind of pitiful b/c she didn't have anything new to wear, so we bought her a Cinderella costume. She really likes the skirt & the crown, but insists on wearing it with her pink boots. I think she has been taking pointers from Daniel on how to make a costume really cool! Daniel however, is really enjoying the Cinderella shoes! They just may be the next shoes for the firefigher uniform.....
New Dress
Gran dusted off her sewing machine last week & made Laura Ann the cutest outfit! I've been begging since Daniel was born for her to sew something for the kids & she just hasn't been interested, but got a wild hair last week & did it. She used to make all of my clothes when I was little & is so talented. THANK YOU GRAN! WE LOVE IT!!! :) I am also including a picture of Daniel's lastest firefigher uniform. He's changed to snow boots (thankfully they seem a lot more pratical for firefighting than high heels) & added a dust mask. I think the goggles are standard for any uniform. The broken curling iron has been his waterhose since he was about 18 months old!
Loving Champ
Laura Ann LOVES all of our dogs, especially Champ because he patiently endures all of her "loving" gestures! He is so sweet & so patient.
